Invitation Addressing Tips

The Ins and Outs of Wedding Invitation Envelope’s
Many invitations include an inner and outer envelope.  The inner envelopes are usually lined and are a way to house and protect the invitation and accessory cards.  The inner envelope is not sealed, but simply slides into the outer envelope.  Pocket invitations generally do not have an inner envelope.  The pocket itself holds the invitation and the accessory cards.

When  addressing envelopes  for formal occasions,  it is proper to spell out the names of the states, and words such as Street, Avenue, Road – abbreviations are generally not used.

When there is only an Outer Envelope:

If your invitations only has an outer envelope and you are inviting a whole family, you can use the 2nd line of the address to list the children.  Children over 18 living in the same household, generally would get their invitation – especially if they are allowed a guest.

If 2 people live together – list them both, putting the person you know the best first.

INNER AND OUTER ENVELOPE:

When there is an inner and outer envelope, only the main invitees(s) goes on the  front of the outer envelope and then the guests and children names are listed on the inner.
